Musical Theatre Audition Workshop in NYC – FULL

Sunday February 19, 2012 Time: 12 – 4 p.m.

Location: Ripley Grier Studios (520 8th Ave.)

We will car pool down on Sunday morning and arrive back home Sunday evening, open to all children 10-18years. 

Work with BROADWAY CASTING DIRECTOR PAT GOODWIN OF TELSEY CASTING (Annie, Wicked, Bonnie and Clyde, Addams Family, Rent, Sister Act, Spiderman and many others). This Workshop gives students the opportunity to work specifically on musical theatre audition technique with a major casting director. We will focus on giving young actors the tools necessary to help them stand out from the crowd and bring new life to their audition songs. Students will also take a dance master class with a Broadway guest teacher.

Each student should prepare ONE MUSICAL THEATRE SONG for this workshop and BRING A PHOTO AND RESUME for Mr. Goodwin. Topics covered are: Song Interpretation, Musical Theatre Audition Technique, Voice Coaching, Dance Combination with a Broadway Guest Teacher and Casting Director Feedback.

SCT Open Mic at Caffe Lena–FULL

Emerging Artists Breakout, Wednesday, February 22, 2012

We will be having an open mic at Caffé Lena over February School break.  Caffè Lena is widely recognized as the oldest continuously operating coffeehouse in the United States. It is an internationally renowned cultural center and an American treasure. Opened in 1960, the café has helped to launch many of America’s best loved songwriters, including Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Ani DiFranco and many more.
Show details:  It will be a 7 PM show. 6:30 doors open to the public.

Performers, it is mandatory to attend rehearsal on day before show at 7pm St Peters School.

FEE: FREE to perform, $5 at the door to see the show.

Collegiate A Cappella -from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA

March 3rd 1-4pm

Collegiate a cappella is a unique art form that shows the true versatility of the human voice.  It centers around the popular music repertoire, with subgenres of rock, pop, rap, and jazz.  All the voices join together to make an ensemble of instruments, and even percussion!  Vocal percussion is an integral part of collegiate a cappella.  At the workshop, students will learn all the basics of collegiate a cappella, and can learn more about beatboxing (vocal percussion), arranging music, and solo singing. A small performance will be given for friends & family at the end of the workshop.

Broad Street Line BIO:

Broad Street Line is a 17-member male a cappella group from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.  The group was formed in 2003 with just five guys who were looking to make music and have some fun. Since their humble beginnings, Broad Street Line has continued to make a name for themselves as Temple University’s only male a cappella group. The group has released three CDs with the latest being “Punched in the Heart.”  SCT’s own Joel Shapiro performs with this group!!

Cocca Casting Workshop

March 24th 1-4

Carolyn Cocca and Mark Fallon, Casting Directors, Albany, N.Y., work with students to prepare them for commercial and film auditions.  Students will learn the importance of procedures before and after auditioning as well as how to create a proper resume.  An on-camera (cold reading) monologue and scene critique will help students improve their audition techniques.  Although sides/lines will be provided, bringing favorite script lines is welcomed.  Students should bring their current head shot and resume. This workshop will give students the skills they need to feel fully confident and prepared for the audition process. Carolyn and Marks bios may be found on their website. Tannen’s Talent/Class Act Studios Workshop, 77 Tarrytown Road, White Plains, New York

March 31st 1-5pm

This workshop promotes creativity and spontaneity. Excellent for the pre-teen or teen who needs help with expressing or exploring their imagination. Includes on-camera, color video playbacks for all students. Improv can help your acting, as you free up your inhibitions and to create characters you never thought you had in you. This can greatly help you at auditions and on the stage. This workshop will also focus heavily on musical theatre… how to perform on the stage as well as behind the scenes. Taught by Vin Berardi (bio below)

The last hour will be Q and A with Lynne Tannen, owner of Tannens Talent. This hour is for parents and children who want to learn the process of film, commercial, print and theatre. You will learn what a management/agency does in this industry and how they can help you.
