The Art of Puppetry Workshop

What is puppetry? What can be a puppet? What do you mean "puppetry is acting"? Explore the art of puppetry with Lita! Our future puppeteers will learn how to develop characters and explore how to make a puppet come to life for an audience.

February 4th from 10:30-11:30am

Ages 9 - 11

Class Fee: $50

About Lita:

Lita Carbone graduated from Hartwick College in 2012 with a B.A. in English and Theatre Arts. Immediately after graduation, she joined the Drama Kids of the Capital Region teaching staff and taught ages 4-17 a variety of acting skills (improv, movement, speech, and more). During her time at Drama Kids, Lita also worked with an education technology company called Genius Plaza that developed e-learning resources for preschool through high school age groups. At Genius Plaza, Lita's supervisor asked, "do you want to be in a puppet video?" Naturally, she said "yes" and her journey has taken her from the screen to stages across the country. Now she brings her puppetry to local productions and story times in the Capital Region. Lita lives in the Capital Region with her husband and their two beautiful kitties.

Costuming: From Start to Finish

In this weeklong workshop, students will acquire the skill necessary to render a costume drawing of an original design based on an existing character, build and sew the costume, and present the finished costume on the runway at the end of the week for an audience of friends and family.

Over the course of the week, students will draw a rendering, learn basic machine and sewing skills, create a small project to practice skill, and collaborate with instructors and peers for ideas to make their design a reality. They will also be encouraged to utilize up-cycled materials and found objects.

February 20th - 24th from 9am - Noon

Additional workshop time will be available from Noon - 3pm on Wednesday and Thursday for those who need extra sewing time. Those staying should pack a lunch.

Ages 10+

$275 Class Fee includes all required materials
